Finding Nemo

The real reason for hitting Cairns was actually to learn how to dive in the bath temp waters of the Great Barrier Reefs. After two days of pool theory and four training dives, Deep Sea Dive Den (suckers) officially bestowed upon me a PADI Open Water Certification to dive. Diving in the Great Barrier Reefs was wonderful, so full of life and color, it was absolutely lovely. Over the course of ten dives and almost five hours underwater, not only did I find Nemo, I saw Squirt, sharks, stingrays, giant moray eels, barracuda, and the list goes on and on. I had an awesome experience diving and if my pocket book can support it (doesn’t look too promising right now), I’ll probably give it another try in Thailand or the Red Sea (two places that are rumoured to be better than the Great Barrier Reefs).

Swimming with a shark, not thinking, I unexpectedly outswam and lost my dive buddy chasing after this shark. I do wonder if it's odd that my first reaction to seeing a shark in the wild is to chase after it as fast and furiously as I could.
